The 2017 Audi A4, the perfect daily driver? Lucian Crockenburg has owned the car for about two months now and believes so.
Audi has been around for generations, producing legendary family automobiles and race cars. The Audi Quattro, first produced in 1980, was the first all wheel drive (AWD) variant using their quattro system, which was the first to distribute torque to all four wheels at once. This was a breakthrough in the car industry because, while AWD was usually used for trucks and large vehicles, this proved AWD could be light, fast and engineered for high performance driving. That car then evolved and inspired future generations until they came to the A4, specifically the S-line Audi A4 prestige.
“The reason I like my car is because it is a perfect combination of comfort and racecar feel,” Crockenburg said. This is exactly what Audi intended during the development of this car. Paired with a 2.0 litre TFSI turbocharged four cylinder producing about 252 horse power, this motor keeps the car interesting while you can stay nice and cozy on the inside. Leather seats, full climate control, sun roof, and the best part, a Bang & Olufsen 3-D surround sound so you can bump your favorite song while cruising in comfort.
As we now know, Audi is directed toward refinement and comfort, but can it be fast? “That silver g37 [in the parking lot], yeah, I’m dusting it.” Crockenburg is aware of the power difference, but he believes the fast transmission in his car will be enough to overtake the Infinity G37.
I have spent my time writing for the Pepperbox surrounded by Volkswagen badges, turbo 4’s and refined interiors., I believe it is time to switch to the Japanese market. This next chapter will be lighter, louder and unapologetically raw. Shall we start with the Infinity?
