The newest attraction in Eureka is a burger joint that originates from Santa Barbara. The new Habit Burger on 5th st in Eureka opened on May 13th, 2026. A total of 206 locations for Habit Burger exist in 14 different states across the US.
Habit seems a bit unique compared to other burger chains around us like Mcdonalds, Carls Jr.
Habit serves a lot of different things then the regular fast food chain, including Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Steak Sandwiches, and a Tuna Filet Sandwich. Habit also refers to all of their burgers as Char burgers, which is short for charboiled.
Habit Burger was founded in 1969 in Goleta, California as Hamburger Habit, in which they were eventually bought out in 1980 by two brothers Brent and Bruce Reichard. In the late 90s to the 2000s Habit had expanded to 17 locations across Southern California. In 2007, KarpReilly a private equity firm purchased a majority stake of Habit with the Reichard brothers still maintaining ownership of the minor locations they already had. In 2020, Yum Brands bought the company for $375 Million. Then in 2024, they changed the name from Hamburger Habit to Habit Burger and Grill.
After all the information I found out about Habit Burger, I decided to try it for myself. I heard that the Charboiled Burger was the best burger on their menu. If I was to give this burger a rating I would have to say 8.6/10.
I think overall this burger joint is pretty good but even though it has good qualities I feel like it is expensive.
Compared to the other burger joints like Stars and Toni’s I would have to say all around that Toni’s is still better but Habit is better quality than Stars.
Before the Habit arrived in Eureka, I had never really heard of Habit Burger. I think it is pretty nice that we finally got a new food chain near us.
