Rising Sport Stars

As Fall sports wrap up, and winter sports begin, we have some returning athletes and up-and-coming athletes. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing These individuals. Junior Finn Warner is one of the Rising Sport Stars, as he moved from JV to Varsity in boys basketball.

Why did you choose to do Varsity?

“Because I got a year older and got a little bit better at basketball.”

Who are you looking forward to playing and beating?

“I’m looking forward to beating McKinleyville.”

Warner is not alone in going from JV to Varsity as Junior Levi Sims has also moved from JV to Varsity in boys Basketball.

Who all made the team besides you?

“Luke Moxon, Dayquann Dunn, Luke Lemke, Dawson Vallegra,” who all played Varsity Basketball last year. Along with Lennon Geider,” who was on JV last year.

Who are you looking forward to beating?

“I am looking forward to beating Eureka.”

I also spoke to the girls’ varsity coach Charlie Espinoza about the new people joining on varsity.

Who has made the team for the girls varsity that are new?

“Well, there are four newcomers on the girl’s varsity team. Mayleah Jackson who played for Del Norte last year, Mae and Tae Wolford who played for JV last year, & Mia Cueto who played for Freshmen last year.”

I also had the opportunity to interview four of the newcomers on the girl’s varsity team.Sophomores Mae & Tae Worlford who played in JV last year for basketball. Who are you looking forward to beating?

Mae: “I’m looking forward to beating Eureka.”

Tae: “I’m looking forward to beating McKinleyville.”

Why did you try out for varsity?

Mae: “Just wanted to try out.”

Tae: “To gain more  experience.”

What part of the season are you looking forward to?

Mae: “I’m looking forward to Tournaments.”

Tae: “I’m looking forward to the WAIBT.”

Junior Mayleah Jackson transferred from Del Norte to Arcata this year.

Who are you looking forward to beating?

“I’m looking forward to beating Del Norte.”

Why did you transfer to Arcata from Del Norte?

“Better opportunities.”

What part of the season are you looking forward to?

“I’m looking forward to The Niclai Tournament.”

Sophomore Mia Cueto played for the freshmen basketball team last year.

Who are you looking forward to beating?

“I’m looking forward to beating Fortuna.”

Why in the world did you try out for varsity? Why didn’t you try out for JV?

“Because I try super hard.”

What part of the season are you looking forward to?

“I am looking forward to working together with my teammates.”
