Dandar’s Boardgames and Books is set to reopen in early April. The game store is moving to a space near the back of Jacoby’s storehouse, where their stock will be limited.
“It’s a lot smaller than what we’ve had in the past,” Dandar’s Co-owner Doranna Gilkey said, “but at least we’ll be able to offer games.” The store will still sell many smaller items such as dice and stickers, but is cutting back on other full-length books to focus on stocking graphic novels and manga.
“Since everyone was so generous with their donations,” Gilkey said. “We have the money to stock up.”
They hope to move to a new permanent location within the year. “There isn’t anything certain yet,” Gilkey said. “We’re still looking at other places in the area, but it’s moving slowly.”
In the meantime, Dandar’s is continuing to host game nights at Outer Space Arcata and Septentrio Winery. They are currently running nights for Magic: the Gathering and Star Wars Unlimited, but they hope to include a general game night at some point.
They plan on integrating this additional game night once they settle into Jacoby’s Storehouse, but will likely need people to contribute their own games. “We’re gonna have to get creative,” Gilkey said. “We don’t have a game library to … bring to game night.”
The business is implementing a temporary logo that features a phoenix, symbolizing their recovery from the fire.
“Keep an ear out,” Gilkey said. “We’ll make a big announcement when we actually open up.”
