In high school you might meet someone and make them your whole world, put them as your first priority, and put all your focus on them. You might think you will be together forever. Some people say that they will never be ok without them, and that they need that person in their life. Emotional dependence’occurs when you really rely on someone to feel okay or safe. It definitely doesn’t mean you’re dramatic or crazy. It just means your emotions are getting really attached to that person.
When the time comes and break ups happen, it can get even worse. It can feel like hell, you will think you will never be able to move on, and it might affect you a lot at school. You might not be able to focus at school, when all you’re thinking about is them. You can start to feel drained and depressed. You might think, I will never find love again. They were the ones. Or I’m never going to find someone like them. That’s very common in high school, but you’re still young. There are so many chances. You might not even know your style yet or whether to choose from “red or blue.” High school relationships can be great, but they don’t always end the best way.
It does get better over time. Sometimes breakups are good. It turns you into a brand new person. You can get stronger and more mature. Maybe you even could become happier by going on hikes, camping trips and just doing the stuff you love. Start spending time with your friends and work on yourself. Getting into a new hobby is great, and you will at least get your mind off it. You might even find someone who is better, who brings joy in your life, and you’ll know how to do it right this time.
A breakup can help you explore new things and know what you want in your next relationship. Maybe instead of thinking so much about the future, enjoy the relationship while it lasts. Sometimes you have problems in your relationship, try so hard to fix them, and just want everything to be fine. People get so caught up in it that they forget to enjoy it, and that can lead to breakups. Even if you think fixing it will help, it can be draining and tiring for the other person causing them to lose feelings.
But you can’t always erase all the love you had for your past lover, you might keep a spot for them in your heart, and that’s ok.
