The Tea app is a dating “safety” platform designed to allow women to post and share information about men they are trying to date or are interested in.
When signing up for the app, you need to identify yourself to make sure you’re the correct gender for this app.
This app functions as anonymous people, where women can report bad behavior, conduct background checks. Search for information about men. This to help them date more safely, avoid risks like cat fishing and encountering criminals. Capitalist Sean Cook originally made this app for his mother so she could have a better dating life.
When first getting the app you need photo and identity sharing. As well as background checks, age check, reverse image search and user identification. Once you’re in the app you can upload an image of a guy, you would like to talk to or date.
After a while of your image being up, people will start to comment on what they know or heard of the guy. People can either red flag him or green flag him. Everything you say on this app and comment will be anonymous.
“I honestly think the tea app is stupid, it makes bad reputations on guys and it spreads false information. This app is just being used to bully and lie about people” Jose said. The tea app can be helpful in many ways, but it also can be an app to bully and discriminate against people.
Martinez said, “I know some of these guys personally on the app. A lot of this information is true about these people, but some are telling lies.” The tea app has reached the point where if people are bullying, saying out of context words, and being inappropriate to the extreme they will ban you from this app. You wont be able to download it again as well as post on it.
In July 2025 the app ended up getting many lawsuits for Initial breach. In which over a thousand users were submitting very personal and private pictures. There were multiple data leaks, including roughly 72,000 thousand images and over 1.1 million messages being leaked. After all this the “tea app” has officially gotten removed from the app store.
