They call him Skyler because he throws so high they go to the sky. Senior Skyler Collenberg threw the 1.6 kg disc a monster 167 ‘6 ” feet to set the new school record in the discus. On Saturday March 14 2026, the Arcata high track and field team traveled to Ukiah for the Jim Crowhurst Track Extravaganza. Many athletes hit new PR’s and won their events but a certain moment really made the day. Arcatas’ discus record of 155 ‘7″ set by Val Manfreda back in 1975 is no more as a new throw king is in the house. At the time of writing this ranks him 18th in California this season,

and number 3 in the North Coast.

Collenberg was “pretty happy about it. It was a 50 year old record.” He now owns both the main throwing events after setting the shot put record last season with 56′
3.75”, and breaking it again this year with a 56′ 4” throw. That throw ranks him number one in the NCS and 18th in the state as well. Collenberg has been dominant in the HDN, and the NCS for many years now. He is looking for his third straight HDN championship win in the Shot put, and looking to repeat on the North Coast Sections podium. The senior standouts goals are “to throw 170-180 [feet]” for the discus this year. As well as continue to improve his already dominant shot put record. Collenberg is planning on throwing in college but is undecided on where he will be attending.
