In every teen and young adult’s life, there is the question of whether or not they will need their wisdom teeth to be removed. Some have the jaw space with properly-aligned teeth and don’t need their teeth pulled, or their wisdom teeth don’t even erupt. But for some of us unlucky enough to have them growing in the wrong way, or our mouths not having enough space, we are told two ways to help us get rid of any pain or deformities.
The process of getting these teeth removed is very similar to each other, with the choice of being put under anesthesia or inhaling laughing gas.
Now, whether you use laughing gas or anesthesia, the process will be the same in terms of how your teeth come out.
If you were to pick laughing gas, you would be awake during the surgery and able to respond to the doctors. Laughing gas will numb the pain, making you feel relaxed and a little silly, and might make you giggle. When the nose piece is removed, you will feel back to normal within minutes.
It is advised that if you are more nervous about getting your teeth out, you should really consider going under anesthesia. You may not be able to feel the pain with laughing gas, but you will be watching the process and listening to all the grinding, breaking & clanking of tools on the table. For some, this isn’t a problem, but for others like myself, remaining conscious during the procedure is an uncomfortable experience.
When getting your teeth out with anesthesia, you may not have to experience any of these problems because you will be unconscious. However, 1-2 of every 1000 cases report people being aware during anesthesia. Reports include the feeling of grinding or hearing conversations.
At the end of the day, everyone has a different story and experience regarding their wisdom teeth. I urge you not to take what you hear online to heart.
