Every year, thousands of new drivers are involved in car crashes. Some of these are significant and others are not; many of them are easily prevented. However, as new drivers navigate through an ocean of stress and academics, life gets in the way of decision-making. The results of these aspects are becoming only more apparent.
Generally, insurance covers these car crashes, and it’s not the biggest deal. However, in particular cases, crashes can cause serious damage to the driver or even total the car.
“At first, I didn’t really believe it happened. It’s kinda scary,” senior Chase Bickmore said. “My whole truck was upside down, and when I looked up, Silven was just chillin upside down stuck in his seatbelt.”
Bickmore was driving about 25 miles per hour, gliding in second gear in his ‘98 Tacoma TRD. This is when someone came speeding toward him in his lane. Bickmore swerved, attempting to evade the driver, and ended up flipping his truck into a ditch in the road.
“The guy didn’t even stop, he just kept going, knowing he just ran me off the road,” Bickmore said.
Bickmore nor his passenger, senior Silven Yoder, sustained any serious injuries. Bickmore left with just a cut on the hand, and somehow the truck still runs.
Although there are major crashes like Bickmore’s, some crashes involve just a few minor scrapes, making it seem like it shouldn’t really be such a big deal, right? You’d be surprised. Yoder was involved in one of these bumper scrapes.
“I’ve been in like three car crashes, but only one where I was driving,” Yoder said. “I was basically pulling out of the parking lot and had already gotten cut off like eight times, and I took a left turn too sharply. I guess I was scraping the bumper of someone’s car, for I don’t know… A while.”
Yoder, who was already frustrated by parking lot antics, was pulling out of his parking spot, driving his mom’s car, as he noticed that he was scraping along the rear bumper of someone’s car, leaving a large mark on the door panels of his. Making matters worse, Yoder had to maneuver away, causing his car to scrape more in the process.
“It really wasn’t that bad,” Yoder said,” but then they got a quote for two grand, and my mom was not too happy about that.”
