With the final episode of South Park Season 27 on its way, many viewers have been either outraged or endeared by the controversial season. This season’s episodes have been much more politically focused than previous eras of the show.
The first episode aroused the most politically charged and, therefore, the most controversial. Sermon on the Mount, first aired on July 23, 2025, starts with the characters’ lives following President Trump’s reelection. Character Eric Cartman is distraught that NPR has been canceled, exclaiming, “Woke is dead.” Eric is further disillusioned by his previously politically correct (PC) principal transforming into a Power Christian (PC) Principal. To make it even more controversial, the creators show Trump naked in bed with satan.
Mixed reactions following the first episode’s release. White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers issued a formal statement dismissing the show as part of the Left and no longer relevant. Viewers from the Left, however, found the episode entertaining.
After later episodes, other administration officials shared their opinions of their depictions. Vice-President JD Vance said, “Well, I’ve finally made it.”
Kirsty Nomes, on the other hand, responded on Glenn Beck’s podcast, calling her portrayal “so lazy” and “petty” for making fun of her appearance rather than her job. While the episode does make fun of her appearance, it also makes fun of ICE and her position at Homeland Security.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) used the show’s depiction of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in a recruitment effort. They posted a screenshot from the episode and a link to their careers page, saying they wanted to “thank South Park for drawing attention to ICE law enforcement recruitment.”
Season 27 also goes into many pop-culture references featuring topics like Lububus, “6-7”, ChatGPT, and Sora AI. South Park has been seen as a timeless show, but
Senior Ryder Binnie feels, “This season was just the trends of that time period, you know?”
The content has led some to be outraged, while others have loved the direction South Park has taken. Some feel that South Park has invaded reality and are happy to find solace in the commentary that South Park has brought to current politics.
Senior Geovanni Lampro stated, “I also think it’s because so much crazy stuff is happening in the real world that they just have a lot more You could say… resources.”
