It’s December 16, 2017, and you just arrived home from school. Rushing to your console you boot it up eagerly and immediately open Fortnite. The festive music emanates from the TV as you sit and wait for the game to load.
The time has come to be immersed in the game of building, looting, and fighting all while talking and laughing with your friends. “OG Fortnite” is something that some people got to experience, while many others did not. After months of requests from players to bring back one of their childhood games, the owners (Epic Games) obliged.
Fortnite recently announced they will be bringing back a game mode that almost perfectly replicates what it was like to play the game back in the day. They plan to release the season one map with the same loot pool that hundreds of thousands of young adults played in their childhoods.
The return of this game mode is bringing back tons of old players and exciting new ones. Freshman Lorenzo Shaner said, “I never really played [OG], so it will be pretty cool to see.”
Although the nostalgic effect of the OG season coming back won’t have as much of an effect on Shaner, senior Liam Gorona has many fond memories of playing as a kid. “I’ve been playing since I was like 11 or 12,” he said. “[My favorite memory is] probably hanging out with my buds and just having a good time.”
Throughout the past years, the game has undergone countless updates and changes and not all of them have been popular.
Gorona expressed extreme distaste for the past update decisions developers made but is intrigued by the return of Fortnite Season One. “If I get the time, after work, school, and the gym, I’ll definitely hop on,” he said.
One of the most exciting parts of Season One that is being brought back is the game mechanic called “double pumping.” This game feature makes it so that a player is able to use two shotguns simultaneously, which gives them an extreme advantage over their opponents.
Overall, the re-release of Fortnite Season One is an exciting event for many and an unimportant piece of information for most. However, for those who were able to experience a game of Fortnite in 2017 as a young impressionable kid, it brings back many pleasant, nostalgic memories.
