Seniors Quincy Collins and Eric Jackson currently have the longest relationship on campus, which started their freshman year. They have been together since May 31st, 2022, two years and eight months. They met on the AHS track team while competing in the same event and have kept their relationship healthy by being romantic while maintaining a good friendship. Even with their busy, sport-filled lives, they still find time to go on dates and hang out at least a couple of times a week. After high school, Collins and Jackson plan on attending the same college and staying together.
The runner-ups are seniors Ava Tempelaere and Alina Smith. They’ve been together for two years and seven months and met in tech class their freshman year. Outside of school, they hang out almost every weekend and go on dates often. After high school, they plan to attend college in the Oregon/Washington area and attend nearby schools to continue their relationship.
The youngest couple on this list met during a crazy time in the world. They met during COVID-19 in their sixth-grade year over Zoom but ended up meeting in person in seventh grade. Sophomores Mala Livingearth and Santiago Tierney have been together for two years and three months. Their tips for a healthy, long-lasting relationship are to always communicate, apologize, and think of each other’s feelings.
Accused “cougar” senior Lillian Cunningham and junior Charles Mager have been together for two years. They met when Cunningham asked Mager to Winter Formal and he said no, so she continued to ask until he said yes. A month later, he asked her, “Do you want to go out?” to which she replied, “Sure,” and they’ve been together ever since. Despite their grade difference, they seem to have a solid plan for after high school. Cunningham plans on attending Cal Poly Humboldt to study Rangeland Resource Science, while Mager plans to join Cal Fire after graduation. Since Cunningham will remain nearby, long distance is not a concern.
Lastly, seniors Amira Wanden and Maile Russell have been together for one year and eleven months. To maintain their relationship, they are very open when talking about things. They knew each other from middle school, but during winter formal sophomore year, they started hanging out, then talking, and a month later, they started dating. Even though their senior year is coming to an end, they aren’t sure what they’ll do after high school but plan on staying together.
The longest-lasting relationships on campus truly show how love can thrive even at a young age. It’s inspiring to see these couples who remind us that it’s possible to maintain strong connections during and after high school rather than letting them fade while pursuing future paths.
