As the leaves begin to change, so do the latest fashion trends at AHS. This fall the halls will be scattered with Ugg boots, Carhartts, and oversized sweaters straight out of the 90s. Prepare to discover a variety of cozy pieces you’re guaranteed to see all autumn long.
- Adidas Sambas: Some might call them soccer shoes but for many, they’re the go-to shoe for any chilly day fit. The Adidas sambas are versatile and affordable. The style possibilities are endless, and for only $100 and a variety of color options, these fresh tennies have got to be a staple in your fall wardrobe.
- Carhartt: Aliviana Bacca-Lastra couldn’t live without nice baggy Carhartt pants. By the looks of it, countless students would agree. “Skinny jeans are not it,” junior Caesar Taylor said. Instead, students are wearing double-knee work pants; with Carhartt, there is no “too big” as long as you own a belt or a shoelace. Though these hardy pants have been weeded out of local thrift stores by fashion fiends, Eco-Groovy Deals, a thrift store in Arcata, has accumulated an impressive collection for reasonable prices. And if all else fails, steal a pair from your dad’s closet!
- Flannels: Stealing your dad’s clothes is looking to be all the rage this autumn. Flannels are easy to find and surprisingly warm. With many rainy days to come, layering is mandatory. Layer a flannel on top of a hoodie and for warmer days, over a graphic tee. Flannels are timeless and have the ability to upgrade a plain outfit.
- Uggs: Are we regressing to 2014?! The suede Tumblr boots are making a comeback. But now, in a variety of styles. Amongst the most popular are the classic minis. Imagine your Uggs from middle school but chop a couple of inches off the top. Another popular pair are the Tasman, these moccasin-style slippers have become the perfect shoe for everyone embracing their comfy cozy side.
- Bubble letter hoodies: Graphic hoodies will always be a wardrobe must-have for frigid fall days. Brands like White Fox and Cactus Jack have embraced the bubble letter trend by printing anything and everything on a hoodie.
- Birkenstocks: When I think Birkenstocks, a summertime style, double-strapped sandal (with a notable mention in the Barbie movie), instantly comes to mind. This year Birks aren’t just a staple of the warmer months, but instead, a suede shoe for all year round. Junior Solana Mendle-Nickle said that “people shouldn’t be wearing sandals in a rainstorm.” With the release of the Birkenstock Bostons, you can wear sandals in any weather.
- Oversized sweaters: This trend embodies what many refer to as “grandpa-core.” Relic sweaters straight from the 90s are a teenage girl’s dream. These itchy vintage pieces are the perfect staple piece to complete an indie fall look.
As the rainy season approaches, staying warm while being fashionable can feel nearly impossible. Incorporating these seven pieces into your fall 2023 wardrobe will offer an array of outfit possibilities. Bundle up and prepare to make the hallway your runway all autumn long!
