Don’t go to Pinterest for your costume

Do you need to know what to be for Halloween this year? Are you and your partner wanting to go as something cute for Halloween, but don’t want to be basic?

Halloween is a fun holiday where everyone wants to go trick-or-treating, go out partying, or stay home and hand out candy. The one problem is that all of these things require a costume. Most people find it challenging to think of a costume and end up using one from the previous year, looking it up on Pinterest, or even just putting on a jersey and calling it a night. That is not going to slide anymore, not this year.

This Halloween, the most trending costume will be Barbie, a Barbie variation, or a couple’s costume: Barbie and Ken. After the Barbie movie recently came out and blew up, Barbie is making a comeback to be the most popular costume idea.

Another popular costume idea is Wednesday Addams. Some know her from “The Addams Family,” while others know her from the recent show called “Wednesday.” This costume is affordable and easily recognizable, especially for people with black hair.

Couples costumes require creativity and significance to the couple themselves, which is hard to achieve.

An old trending couple’s costume idea was Aang and Kitara from the Nickelodeon cartoon “Avatar.” The show came out in 2005 and is not as popular today. Aang is recognizable by his tattoos and could be easily portrayed by wearing an orange jumpsuit and using body paint for the arrows. Kitara would require a blue jumpsuit and her specific hairstyle for significance. There are also many other characters from the show, such as Toph Beifong and Appa, who could be easily portrayed as well.

Some believe that people should stick to the “scary” Halloween costumes. Junior Dawson Vallerga said, “I like the scary outfits, like the killers.”

Even though “Coraline” is an animated movie, the characters Coraline and Wybie could still be considered scary couples costumes. “Coraline” is known for its great storyline and disturbing characters. It is well-known and loved by the public.

Senior Alana Huber and her partner are going as Coraline and Wybie. She explained her plan for her costume. “I will be dying my hair blue with that spray stuff and just focusing on the details like her dragonfly hair clip and other things like that,” Huber said.

Family or group costumes are just as hard, or harder, to come up with because of their originality and accessibility.

A common but classic group costume idea is the “Scooby-Doo” characters. This costume could be used for a group of four–Fred, Shaggy, Daphne, and Velma–or if you want to do it with a group of five, Scooby can be added. This costume idea is easy to achieve because all of the characters have simple and recognizable outfits.

Another classic group costume idea is the characters from “Toy Story.” This costume is diverse be- cause it could be used as a single person going as any character, a couple’s costume as Woody and Jesse, a friend’s costume as Woody and Buzz, or a group costume being any combination of characters.
