Sitting in the cold theater, popcorn and an energy drink in hand, laughter erupted and echoed around me. Audience members couldn’t help but laugh as they watched the new Bus Boys comedy film.
Theo Von, Trevor Wallace, David Spade, and Bobby Lee feature in what I would consider one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Although I’d like to say, if you go in expecting a high-end film that’s straight out of Hollywood, well, you’re going to be disappointed. A normal movie budget is approximately 60 to 100 million dollars. This movie was self-funded by Spade and Von with a budget of 3 million dollars. Since it was self-funded, Von and Spade were able to have more freedom in writing the script.
Now to the movie. Picture this: right off the bat, the film begins with a man who is extremely lonely, driving pets around before they pass. From what it portrayed, he doesn’t seem to be the smartest dude out there. Then it switches to a high schooler. It portrays the high schooler as lonely and again, not the smartest dude out there. After a short turn of events, they became best friends. As life goes on, they go through a turn of events. One of the main characters, Markie, played by Spade, loses his girlfriend to a waiter. That’s where the name Bus Boys comes in.
They see a sign that reads “Bus Boys needed,” so the two apply at a very sketchy restaurant. Running around to bus tables in the restaurant, they compete daily for a waiter spot, which is the “desired” spot by all the bussers.
Throughout the movie, you will get a lot of one-liners, slapstick jokes, and dark comedy while having character development following a plot. I have no complaints about this movie, and I would definitely recommend watching.
