As the first rays of sunlight break through the fog and trees, many students find themselves venturing outside. The typical foggy weather has started to burn off, and students find themselves ready to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the change in seasons.
Humboldt beaches, though typically cold, are one of the most beautiful places in California. Visiting them, especially with friends, can make a perfect day. Being outside with friends has a great impact on mental health. It reduces anxiety and lowers cortisol. Being in the natural light and watching the waves promotes mindfulness.
“Me and my band play music there because he has everything a musician could ever dream of. The Mattole River’s just a few miles away. That place is magical,” junior Levi Scaglione said.
Seeing the blooming flowers of spring, people may find themselves feeling happier. Seasonal depression withers at the sight of new, blooming fields. Being able to smell these seasonal plants lowers anxiety. Looking at a flower field, it is impossible to stay down in the dumps.
