Twins are very rare, with about 3% of U.S. pregnancies being twins. At Arcata High, there are quite a few twins, differentiating between girl and boy twins, twin sisters, and twin brothers. As a twin myself, I find it has a lot of pros and cons.
I’m always going to have my sister by my side. There isn’t a moment in which I would change with her. Never taking a moment with her for granted. Even though we fight, there are a lot of things that make being a twin so worth it.
“I always have someone to talk to and I have my best friend,” both of the freshman O’dowd twins agreed.

Twins have a greater connection than siblings with an age gap, whether it’s a year gap or a couple of years gap. For example, twins are always on the same wavelength, saying or thinking the same thing at the same time, doing the same thing at the same time, and knowing what to do to provide for one another without having to say anything.
“Having a twin connection is something many people don’t get to experience; I’m grateful I get to with Tae,” senior Mae Wolford said.
Growing up with someone always by your side is so much fun. There is a memory that I have from when Mae and I were in middle school, while we were still sharing a room. We would wake up around the same time in the middle of the night. We’d both say “we’re so hungry,” so we’d sneak to the kitchen, come back to our beds, and just share the food. Then go back to sleep.
Having a twin sister has brought so many good memories, and I have a great connection with Mae. I’m so happy I get to grow up with her and have her as my twin sister.
