What is a meme? How have memes changed over the years? What were the memes and jokes when our teachers were in high school? Well, today, we are going to uncover and understand what makes our very own teachers LAUGH. OUT. LOUD!
Sometimes pronounced “mii-mi” by the unaware (or uninformed), a meme, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned photo or image) that is spread widely online through social media.”

Because of apps like Instagram and TikTok. Memes have changed so much over the years, from images with top text and bottom text to GIFs, short video clips, and phrases like 67. New ones pop up randomly, some that get popular in a couple of hours.
Some memes are very silly, others are relatable and real. However, memes as we know them today are different from when our teachers were in high school. Memes before the internet were movie and show quotes, inside jokes, and funny phrases. Even for our younger generation of teachers, apps like Vine, which were similar to TikTok with short-form videos, no longer exist from when they were in high school.
In their day-to-day lives, memes are a way for millions of people to connect through shared experiences and fun jokes. A small meme can make someone’s day so much better, so don’t be afraid to crack that yolk next time. You might make someone’s day turn sunnyside up!
