High school: a time where relationships bloom. Dating: a new experience for most students at Arcata High.
Even with limited expertise, we all have a few awkward or disastrous moments in our romantic pursuits.
It’s always good to take a step back and realize you are not alone in these experiences. Even our teachers have their fair share of embarrassing encounters during dates.
Teachers have been in the game a bit longer than students. We can learn best how to recover from these unpleasant dates from those who’ve been through the wringer a few times.
One teacher here at Arcata High recounted a time when she went hiking with her date, and things went south. After hiking about two miles, her date stopped and asked her if she wanted to take a break for some water and a snack.
“I don’t know what the snack was, but whatever it was did not sit well with my stomach,” the anonymous teacher said.
One of the most dreadfully tragic moments that makes a date feel like an escape situation is realizing you’re dealing with stomach issues. It doesn’t usually end well.
“About another 30 minutes into the hike, I realize I have to take a sh*t. I’m in the middle of this forest on this hike with this guy in my new pants,” the teacher said.
Unfortunately, sometimes there is no getaway when you’re halfway through a date. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
“I could barely get my pants down before I sh*t all over myself, my brand new pants, my brand new shoes. Like the worst I’ve had in my whole entire life,” she said.
No shame, but this has to be one of the most horrible ways for a date to go wrong. It’s like Murphy’s Law of dating. Anything that could go wrong, went wrong.
“I’m there, trying to clean off with leaves, literally the sh*t off my pants. This is so embarrassing. Anyway, needless to say, I left a pair of underwear buried under some leaves in the middle of Redwood Park.”
This truly is a dating story from hell.
“At the end of the date, he went in for a hug, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m good.’” Too embarrassed to stay in contact, she shut it down.
Nobody’s perfect at starting up a relationship. Our teachers used to be right where we are. This is a more devastating example, but it shows we can all come back from embarrassing dates. This teacher ended up finding a long-term relationship later on, so it’s not all bad. Now, this was just a funny story in the past, to look back and laugh at.
Awkward situations happen to the best of us. Maybe with some luck, those situations can lead you to bigger and better things, or maybe bring your relationship closer.
Nevertheless, the road to finding your one and only will never be easy, but that should never discourage you from your search for love!
