This year, on Friday, December 5th, students and staff came together in the Fab to show off and sell their artwork at the school Artisan fair. This annual event gives students the opportunity to raise money for school programs and clubs, to learn business skills, and to apply and showcase their artistic talents in a real-world environment. Woodshop students worked hard to create impressive items like benches, key holders, cutting boards, planter boxes, and more. Most of these wooden pieces take several days to a couple of weeks to finish.
This year, the woodshop teacher, Sarah Hallowell, attended the artisan fair to sell the wood pieces crafted by her students. Student Colton Adams volunteered to go and assist with setup and also contributed by selling some of his planter boxes and cutting boards that he made. All of the money they made at the fair is going to be used to get more supplies and wood for the class’s future projects.
Arcata Arts Institute (AAI) was offering a unique collection of Oracle cards. They called these “Visions of Virtue.” Each one was designed around a word, along with original artwork that reflected each student’s personal interpretation of their featured word. They also came with a card that has a QR code on it for you to scan and see what the artwork means to the student who created it, and why they chose what they made to represent the word they had.
People from the photography class sold original prints. The Co-Lab offered a selection of 3D printed items for sale, showing their innovative use of technology. Students and teachers from the world language clubs also participated, offering a taste of different cultures by selling their authentic foods. Don Carlos from the Spanish class served tacos, while the German club offered homemade soup, and the French club created delicious crepes. The Artisan Fair was a great success, showcasing the creativity and hard work of the students and staff.
