Best pizza slices in Humboldt County

There is an abundant selection of pizza places in Humboldt. Almost any style of slice is available: New York, Sicilian, Jersey, and even crusts that are unique to a location. Many of the bakers in Humboldt are very talented, offering house-made sauces and high-quality ingredients to re-imagine what pizza is.

Smugs: $-$$

Smugs has been offering delicious pizza at affordable prices for 25 years at all three of its locations. Multiple topping schemes, including vegetarian options, are available both by the slice and by the pie. The slices have a unique medium crust in thickness, the sauce is rich in aromatic herbs, and is topped with whole milk mozzarella cheese. Although the seating indoors is very limited. The small lot allows them to deliver pizza at such an affordable price.

Arcata Pizza and Deli: $-$$

Arcata Pizza and Deli has also been in business for 25 years, open every day from 12 PM to 10 PM. As the name suggests, they serve far more than just pizza, with a large menu featuring sandwiches, salads, soup, and more. The slices are monstrous, with a very thin crust, a delicious sauce, and a perfect ratio of topping, with a rotating special flavor available too. Available in slices or customizable pies, everyone will find something they like at Arcata Pizza and Deli.

Headies: $-$$

Headies, located in Trinidad, has been open since 2018. They offer delicious Jersey-style slices, which you can enjoy while overlooking the Trinidad head. Headies’ signature sauce is well-seasoned with aromatic herbs. The crusts are perfectly thin, crisp, and foldable, and the special slice of the week never misses. While Trinidad may be out of the way for some, I see Headies as one of my favorite slices in all of Humboldt. The views, flavors, and crispy thin crust are unmatched.

Paul’s Live From New York: $$

Paul’s is the oldest running pizza place in Humboldt, running for over 31 years. Crusts are served in multiple different styles: traditional New York, Sicilian, and even a special double-crust pie. You can get sandwiches, salads, pizza rolls, garlic knots, and desserts. So many different styles of pizza are offered, I couldn’t even list them all. The variety is endless, and it’s all house-made and hand-tossed. Paul’s has 2 locations, one in Arcata and the other in Eureka. Overall, Paul’s is a great pick, has something for everyone, and sets itself as my other favorite slice.
