A new Texas chain restaurant is coming to Humboldt, and students couldn’t be happier

Humboldt is lucky to get this restaurant due to it being a small county with many small local businesses, and not as many “chain” restaurants.

The plan to tear down the Pine Motel, the electric blue hotel that once sat on Broadway, and replace it with something new started in 2020. The City of Eureka’s Design Review Committee held a meeting Tuesday morning, October 10th, to discuss a proposal that would replace the Pine Motel at 2411 Broadway with a new building containing a Subway and a separate Starbucks drive-thru.

Plans have changed, and a Wingstop is replacing the Subway idea. Wingstop, a restaurant originating from Garland, Texas, is making its way to the North Coast. What they sell at Wingstop is literally in the name: Wings! They’re also known for their hand-cut seasoned fries that leave your mouth watering, and you can’t forget their original sauces. It’s more than just a meal, it’s a flavor experience.

“I used to live in a big city, so knowing they’re gonna open a Wingstop makes me feel close to home. Just don’t get the lemon pepper wings, they’re dry,” senior Kiara Leon said

Due to all the incoming students at the Cal-Poly Humboldt, the school wants to add more food attractions. As well as make “Broadway” in Eureka more appealing. Not only are they adding Wingstop, but they are adding a Starbucks to accompany it. Humboldt is lucky to get this restaurant due to it being a small county with many small local businesses, and not as many “chain” restaurants.

“That’s what Eureka’s for! All the normal fast food chains that Humboldt didn’t have, like, forever,” said Arcata High senior Eden Beachy. We’re very sure there are going to be a lot of controversial opinions on this opening, but having another wing place other than Lost Coast Brewery is pretty exciting.
