Several months ago, I injured my knee during the football season, which put me out of the sport for the year. This got me thinking about who else had experienced bad injuries due to sports and how it felt.
So, from my experience with a bad knee injury, it has made me wonder how many other students at Arcata High School have had bad sports-related injuries. So I talked to sophomore Eoin McGoldrick, who is someone who can relate to me with suffering an injury due to sports.
McGoldrick said that while running for track, he pulled his hamstring, which sidelined him from running track for 3 to 4 weeks. McGoldrick said that his hamstring was only painful the moment he pulled it, but not much after, also that when he tried to run, it was not because of pain, just that he had tightness while running. McGoldrick followed this statement up by saying, “As soon as this happened I felt a pop and it was painful for not too long.”
After talking to McGoldrick, I learned that some injuries have a different level of pain, such as myself, which was painful for a long time for several months, but for McGoldrick’s pulled hamstring, it was more of tightness than pain, which is interesting because this shows me that injuries have a pretty high scale when it comes to severity.
