Nearly everyone in Humboldt County says that finding a dress for school dances or formal occasions is almost impossible. Is this actually true, or is it just a myth?

Apparently, there are no places to go in Humboldt, so purchasing from websites is the most convenient and easy way.
“I feel like there is more variety and options [online],” sophomore Tallulah Grantham said.
However, shopping online without knowing places to look is very challenging. Everyone struggles to find the perfect dress. So here are the best websites that could make your shopping for formal wear easier!
- Windsor is an American brand offering on-trend women’s clothing and accessories, specializing in formal wear and events, as well as work and casual attire. Their full collection is available on their website or in each of their retail stores. It is a fast-fashion brand, so it focuses on rapidly bringing trendy and current styles at affordable prices.
- Oh Polly is an international online women’s fashion brand known for its high-quality, trend-driven, and often “extra” clothing. It aims to empower women through fashion, while supporting the Brannerson Foundation, a charity providing aid to children and families in Cambodia.
- Lucy in the sky is a Los Angeles-based fashion brand focused on special occasions and party dresses, such as homecoming, prom, and holiday wear. It offers a large variety of dresses for various special events.

“My advice would be not to wait until the last minute,” senior Gabriela Cavinta said. “Because they will always sell out your size.”
The best idea would be to buy multiple dresses some weeks in advance online, then try them on and return the ones that you don’t like. Also, because sometimes the shipping can take too long.
“I always say go off of a reference,” junior Josephine Johnson said. “Go on, like TikTok or Instagram, and see if you can find that dress on other people.”
Looking at the dress you are thinking of buying on someone else can be helpful because it can show you how it actually looks in real life.
Many other people just borrow their friends’ or their mom’s dresses, because it can be a very simple and quick way. Although there are some local options, including Daydream, Promises, Timber, and Hot Knots.
