Women’s basketball player Melanie Luh

Melanie Luh:

Do you think you are superstitious with basketball and how?

“Um, yes. If I eat something beforehand and I have a bad game, I blame that and I don’t ever eat that before a game ever again.”

What is your pre-game ritual to bring you good luck?

“To bring me good luck, I go straight home, I take an hour nap, I try out, like, three different hairstyles and end up just doing a slick-back ponytail. Then, I go to the gym and listen to Kendrick on the drive there.”

What’s your favorite pre-game food?

“Probably oranges.”

What number did you have last year and how did you choose that number?

“24. I chose that number because I really like 24 because it’s a multiple of eight, three, six, two, and 12, which I think is really cool. It’s a very versatile number, and it was Kobe’s number which is also cool.”

Women’s basketball player Addison Wingate

Addison Wingate:

Do you think you are superstitious when it comes to basketball?

“I would say so, yeah.”

What superstitions do you follow?

“I mean, definitely listening to a good song before a game. I feel like that’s super important or else you’re not in, like, the right headspace, and I always need to wear white socks for games, I don’t know why.”

What is your pre-game ritual?

“Definitely singing a song. We used to always sing a song last year and it was just dope. It would get us in the groove.”

What number are you going to pick this year? Why?

“Definitely 23. It’s just been my number my whole life and my birthday is October 23 and Michael Jordan, I don’t know, he’s cool.”

Women’s basketball player Kyndle Eisner

Kyndle Eisner:

Do you think you are superstitious when it comes to basketball?

“Kind of, I mean for some things. Other things don’t really matter.”

What superstitions do you follow with basketball?

“I mean we sing before every game and I feel like if we don’t do that then we’re gonna have a bad game. That has happened, like, if we messed up the song or things like that.”

What do you sing?

“We sing ‘Ain’t No Mountain High [Enough].’”

What is your pre-game ritual?

“I wear my Airpods and I listen to hype music. And I try not to speak for 30 minutes and just, like, lock in.”

What was your jersey number last year and will it be the same this year?

“22 and yeah.

Why did you choose that number?

“My mom wore it in high school, and my uncle wore it in high school, and my grandpa wore it in high school. So, I’m kind of just carrying it on I guess.”

Men’s basketball player Luke Lemke

Luke Lemke:

Do you think you are superstitious with basketball?

“A Little bit. I’m not, like, the most superstitious, but a bit.”

What superstitions do you follow?

“Probably just, like, certain pairs of socks are linked with good games, I guess, or like a pre-game meal that helps me out.”

What pre-game meal helps you out?

“Probably like a raspberry and mango smoothie.”

What is your pre-game ritual?

“Listen to music in the locker room. I don’t feel like I have a certain ritual, I just go with the flow until the game starts.”

What was your jersey number last year?

“Last year I wore 11.”

Do you want the same one this year?

“Uh no, I don’t. I’ll probably go with a 1 this year.”

Do you think that number is a lucky number for you?

“It’s not really a lucky number, it just looks better.”

Men’s basketball player Kalani Butor

Kalani Butor:

Do you think you are superstitious when it comes to basketball?

“Uh, yeah I like to listen to the same kind of songs before each game. That could be superstition or just how they make me feel but yeah.”

What’s your pre-game ritual?

“I get all my stuff on. I get my jersey on, my shoes, and I usually listen to a select amount of songs before I play and warm up with my teammates.”

Do you feel that ritual brings you good luck?

“Yeah, yeah I usually play well most of the time.”

What was your number last year and would you pick that same number this year?

“My number last year was 25. The number that I usually like playing with is 35 so I think I should be able to get that this year.”

Why is that your favorite number?

“Because the player that I kind of model my way of playing is wearing 35: Kevin Durant.”
