It’s just a good Halloween movie,” senior Ruby Auckland said. This cozy and fun film is perfect to get into the Halloween spirit.

Another amazing movie to watch during the autumn season is When Harry Met Sally. It captures the story of two college graduates, Harry Burns and Sally Albright, who first meet when driving from Chicago to New York. As the movie progresses, Harry and Sally reconnect and try to navigate the complexities of maintaining a platonic friendship. Most of the film is shot in the fall and winter seasons, showing brilliant fall fashion styles and the feelings that autumn brings.

Spot #6 is a series rather than a single film, the Twilight Saga.This film series perfectly captures the eerie feeling of autumn through the telling of a story of vampires and werewolves. Bella Swan moves from Arizona to Forks, Washington, a cold, rainy, and very small town. Bella meets Edward, who reveals himself as a vampire and the two soon fall in love. The Twilight series is a classic Halloween movie saga to watch during the fall season.

At spot #5 is Hocus Pocus. Max and Dani Dennison move to Salem, Massachusetts, and explore an abandoned house with their new friend Allison. While investigating, Max accidentally frees three evil witches. “I love the witches because of their style and their witchy aesthetic,” senior Ruby Auckland said. Hocus Pocus is a must-watch movie for the Halloween season.
- Good Will Hunting
Another coming-of-age film to watch is Good Will Hunting. Will Hunting is a math genius but works as a janitor at MIT. He struggles to emerge from his misguided personality when being discovered by a professor who strives to help him reach his potential. Hunting sees a counselor who helps him break free from his troubled past. This film isn’t centered around the fall season, but the cinematography and drama make it perfect for viewing during autumn.
- Coraline
Another great movie to watch during the fall is Tim Burton’s Coraline. Coraline moves to a house where she discovers a secret door that leads her to an alternate world, similar to her own but is seemingly much better. Coraline finds that this “perfect” world is not what it seems, and she works to escape the evil surrounding her. This film is mysterious, slightly scary, and stylistically unique.
- Little Women
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women is the second-best movie to watch during autumn. It tells the story of four sisters who have different personalities and aspirations, yet are inseparable. “I like to watch it because it takes place in fall and winter and it gives off the cozy candle vibes,” freshman Naomi Rush Copple said. The film explores feelings of love and loss and captures the essence of fall through colors and cinematic stylistic choices.
- Fantastic Mr. Fox
The #1 best fall movie is Fantastic Mr. Fox. This film follows the story of a family of foxes and their adventures and relationships with each other. Fantastic Mr Fox captures the truest essence of fall through orange undertones in cinematography that depict the familiar, warm colors of the autumn leaves, and through incorporating some of our favorite fall treats.
