Crisp air and crisp tunes: Fall music guide

2023 Fall Rhythm

School’s already been in session for two months, yet it’s the beginning of something new–the turning of the leaves, rainier days, and dewier mornings. The season is in its changing phase, a cyclical change. But when that fall air hits, so does the music. Here are some of the very abundant amber-seasoned music that you should be bumping all fall! Music is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and generations. It has the power to evoke emotions, trigger memories, and bring people together. A song recommendation from the woman herself, advisor of the Pepperbox Danielle Witten will also be involved! When it comes to the fall, everything is slower, even the tempo in the songs here are songs that you should be playing
all fall long:

Dark Red by Steve Lacy
Whether it’s the name of the song that we associate with fall, or it just has a fall beat, you can never go wrong with a little Steve Lacy to get into the fall vibe. Lacy’s falsetto vocals are a defining feature of the song. His delivery is smooth and emotive, adding depth and seductiveness in the most friendly way to the lyrics. A contemporary and nostalgic beat brings that fall vibe to life.

TELEKINESIS by Travis Scott (Feat. SZA & Future)
Have you heard Travis Scott’s latest album? If you haven’t, all you have to listen to is this one song. The beautiful high pitched, but also slightly melancholic song is a masterpiece. The transition between Travis Scott’s verse to SZA’s screams fall and gets you feeling that sweater weather. Did you also know this song specifically on Travis Scott’s “UTOPIA” album was written by Kanye West?
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult
Let’s take it back a little bit, to 1976. The song suggests that death is a natural part of life and that we should not fear it. Instead, we should embrace life and love while we can, as our time is limited. Besides the song’s very captivating meaning, it has a very mystical fall vibe to it. Its haunting melody, memorable guitar riff, and distinctive cowbell sound all make this song very special. It has become one of Blue Öyster Cult’s signature songs and a classic of 1970s rock music.

September Song by Agnes Obel
Danielle Witten, the Pepperbox adviser, has had this song on repeat since the beginning of fall.

“I go into this mode during the fall where I listen to sad fall music,” Witten said.

I don’t blame Witten for that sad feeling. Fall is the season of change in emotions, the smell of the air, the color of the leaves, and best of yet, music. I hope that all fall long your music choices are through the roof! If you feel these four songs aren’t enough choices to add to your playlist, click the link for a Spotify playlist, “2023 Fall Rhythm,” of more fall feeling music.
