Despite its common hate from the younger generations, Apple Music is far superior to Spotify. Are you Spotify users just mad that you got deprived of the sweet voice of Neil Young? I’ve never even heard one good argument as to why Spotify is better than Apple Music.
“Every time I hear a Spotify user trying to defend it, their only true reasoning is just because ‘they use it,’” sophomore and avid Apple Music user, Kloe Bryant said.
Spotify is just another social media clogging up your phone. There’s no need for my personal music to turn into another thing I have to share with the world. Apple Music is more lowkey and there’s no need to worry about my peers constantly checking what I’m listening to.
“You can still see what someone’s listening to on Apple Music if you’re really that curious, but it’s more private…to me, music taste isn’t something someone should use to judge someone so I appreciate the privacy,” senior Stella Pepper said.
The price difference is the true seller. On both Spotify and Apple Music you can buy a college student plan for $5.99 per month, but what about if you’re not in college? Most Arcata High students reported that they have family accounts on either Spotify or Apple Music.
Let’s take a look at those stats, shall we?
On Spotify, you can purchase a family plan for $19.99 per month. Looks like Apple Music has their plans for $16.99 per month. $3.00 cheaper, but in the long run saving almost $40.00 per year!
If you’re not into the family plan, an individual one is also available. Surprise, surprise Apple Music wins the cost battle coming in with a whopping $10.99 per month. Whereas Spotify offers their individual plans for $11.99 per month. By saving $12.00 a year, you can buy two drinks at Starbucks, or triple that amount by saving $40.00 per year on that family plan. That cheaper cost should immediately be the top selling point.
Some students are also drawn to Apple Music’s sleek design and user-friendliness. Can’t deny that it’s just more aesthetically pleasing than Spotify’s dark green and black atmosphere.
“I enjoy the way it’s organized. I feel like it’s really clean and easy to find everything. Spotify is disorienting because they just tried to cram everything on the home page,” Pepper said.
For years, people have used the argument of having Spotify wrapped to justify their Apple music hatred. Spotify wrapped seems to have been a flop this year. Imagine waiting all year to see you’re wrapped just for it to suck!
“I don’t want to wait all year just to see what awful music my January self was listening to,” Bryant said.
Apple Music’s practically twin feature “Apple Music Replay” comes out once a month along with a yearly “wrapped” right when Spotify comes out. Once a month, you get a fun presentation of who your top artist is, your top song, and your top album. Along with how many minutes you spent listening to that artist, how many plays you had for that song, and the minutes spent listening to that album. Unlike wrapped, ‘replay’ stays up all year long and you can even look back on all your past years.
