The dreadful cold has lingered in Humboldt in the bitter months of November through February. Since the end of the holiday season, students have been hopelessly longing for the return of the sunshine.

Magically and suddenly, answering the prayers of Humboldt County residents, there’s been a huge weather breakthrough! The freezing temperatures have vanished, and they are finally exceeding a whopping 60 degrees. A massive heat wave has spiked in Arcata and neighboring towns as students have begun flocking to the river and beach.
Wearing bathing suits and putting on their sunscreen, people are frantically dying to soak up the sun. Some have even begun to wear their bikinis at school because of the extreme heat. At school, students are ditching class to lie in the sun on the senior lawn or even on the warm concrete outside of classrooms or the hood of their cars.
With classrooms still being dark, cold, and dreary, some leave campus altogether during school hours to tan by the river or ocean. They’ll do anything to defrost from the bitter cold.
It’s expected that this great heat wave will only increase in the following weeks and may even reach a burning 70-degree temperature. By prom, seniors may be sporting tan lines and sunburns along with their dresses and tuxedos.
