The season of Fall is well-known for adding beauty to our natural surroundings and facilitating community events or traditions. Here in Humboldt, both the community and the natural world are especially cherished, so we must be sure to make the most out of this season and visit the places that are extra special during this time. With this in mind, we have crafted a list of five of the best places to visit during Fall so you can get the most out of this season.
- Number one is a classic fall destination: the Pumpkin Patch, or more specifically Huddie’s Harvest. Going to the pumpkin patch is a common fall tradition, and after consulting several Humboldt fall experts we have determined that Huddie’s Harvest in Arcata is the best place to get a premium pumpkin and fall experience.
- Next is the Fortuna Apple Harvest Festival! This year the festival will take place October 5th and features a city-wide celebration of local farms and community. “Delicious cider, fun activities, and something I’ve experienced as both a kid with my parents and now as a dad with my children!” Adam Pinkerton, Arcata High Teacher, said when sharing his connection to the festival.
- Number three is Cafe Mokka in Arcata. This cafe offers a selection of pastries accompanied by outdoor hot tubs and saunas for rent, a perfect option to sit and enjoy a cold fall day. “They have the best chai’s for fall and the overall experience is so fun,” Rosa Shaw said, an avid Cafe Mokka visitor and Freshman at Arcata High.
- Another great fall experience is enjoying the sunset with loved ones. The season of Fall is very well-known for the dazzling effects it can have on nature, and here in Humboldt, we can see these effects in many places, with one of the best examples being our sunsets. Our coast is one of our most prized spectacles in Humboldt, with both our sunsets and sunrises creating awe-worthy sights that become even more picturesque and vibrant during the fall.
- Our last place is the Arcata Farmers Market. Every Saturday morning groups of vendors align on the Plaza and sell their products. Most food and produce depend heavily on the season, with fall bringing out some of the best flavors. “The Arcata Farmers’ Market is a great event all year long, but it is especially great in the Fall. There are so many delicious fall foods to enjoy such as pumpkins and winter squash. I mean, who doesn’t love pumpkin pie?” Jason Sidell said.
