Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream: Protecting humanity TikTok has become a platform where people can share their fun and random videos with friends spread awareness and shine a light on problems in the world that no one has taken action on. Thousands of companies, including Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, have not only promoted their products on this app, but also their opinions on social injustices, discrimination, and world issues that are causing a large negative impact on society.
Ben and Jerry’s has organized protests, posted educational videos, and shared their opinions on multiple topics including gender equality, transgender rights, marriage rights, racial discrimination, cannabis rights, deportation awareness, and reproductive rights.
“I think this is a good way to use their platform, especially during this time in the world. It’s nice to know that brands I see regularly support people, and not just posting to get money,” junior Elias Gomez said.
Many people have supported this brand at this time, spending extra money to support them. Some brands and bigger corporations such as Target, Walmart, and Amazon have taken action to remove all DEI, meaning diversity, equity, and inclusion. This has caused them to lose money out of the frustration of their customers, boycotting them to show their anger and bring their money to small local businesses. TikToker Joss Cut had uploaded a video from a local grocery store near them which showed the business blocking the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream with cardboard, removing them from the view of their customers. Can you believe corporations who pay to carry these brands are now boycotting them for their positive social media presence?
With a TikTok following of 4.3 million followers and an average of 200,000 views per video, a large variety of people are seeing their posts. With the current algorithm, the variety of opinions from their viewers could vary either positively or negatively, impacting their company.
