If you walk into any store during February you’ll be bombarded with heart-shaped boxes and mylar balloons, all covered in different shades of red and pink. Red prompts the emotional regions of our brain and is correlated with love, passion, and desire. Whereas pink is associated with sweetness, romance, and tenderness. But what do Arcata High School students think?
Q: Red or pink, and why?
Xiomara Paz Dominguez, freshman: “I associate it more with red because pink is a shade of red. You see red more in different shades.”
Gabriella Gonzalez, senior: “I think I more so associate it with pink honestly. And I think it’s just a very girly color and I feel like Valentine’s Day is just like a really girly holiday. Honestly, I feel like guys aren’t as interested in it as girls are.”
Betty Miles, freshman: “Definitely pink more. I don’t know, it’s not like love, like red, but pink is just like Valentine’s Day.
Cooper Miles, senior: “I think I associate it with pink because I feel like growing up everything was just always pink on Valentine’s Day.”
Eamen Campbel, senior: “I associate Valentine’s Day with red because of making valentines in school, and like cutting out all the stuff like that. It’s primarily what hearts are colored.”
