With the wrap-up of the 2024 election, there has been a mix of reactions regarding results, with strong opinions and feelings coming to light. Trump’s victory has come with an outburst of fears and worries, the majority of them coming for the female population of our country. President Trump’s election to a second term marks the second time he has defeated a female opposing candidate, which has furthered the controversy regarding his re-election. Taking this information into account we reached out to our female students and teachers on campus to get their opinions on the results of this year’s election.
How do you feel about the results of the 2024 Presidential election?
“ I’m pretty sad about the results of the election. I don’t think it was that unexpected if you look at the amount of power he holds over the vast majority of Americans. But, I still think it’s pretty sad.”
-Hiro Sugata (Senior at Arcata High)
“Devastated, disappointed. Heartbroken, scared.”
-Kayla Gaskill (Arcata High Teacher)
“I feel like my rights are at stake and I don’t feel safe.”
-Anonymous Student
“I feel like it is a loss for women. Honestly, I don’t feel upset about the results of the election, but I do feel upset about the fact that a female lost to a notoriously racist man not once, but twice. I think that is really upsetting in the world of feminism, but I also prefer Donald Trump.”
-Anonymous Student
“I feel kind of ashamed of the entire country because the evidence and the information were all there for people to see why it was a bad decision to elect President Trump but a lot of people who voted for him chose to ignore it.”
-Trillium Pitts (Freshman at Arcata High)
After gathering this information, we asked these students and teachers about their hope for female leadership in the future of our country, seeking to see the way that this election may have impacted their ideas.
Do you have hope for female leadership in our country in the future?
“I do. I believe that…I have hope. I refuse to believe that this is going to be our country forever.”
-Gaskill
“No. I think it’s pretty much down the drain. We have had two opportunities and it has gone to s**t so.”
-Anonymous Student
“Yeah, I do. I think that one day it will happen. We are really close, we just need to find the right person and the right time.”
-Anonymous Student
“I want to say I do…but not really. I feel like we had a chance and we didn’t do what we needed to do to elect a female leader. I think that farther in the future it is a possibility but not anytime soon, unfortunately.”
-Trillium Pitts
“Yes. I hope that someday we will have a female in office as our president and that will help our nation go forward and get better.”
-Aviva Orlandi (Freshman at Arcata High)
