As the bustle and bloom of spring lurches forward, the Trinidad Chamber of Commerce will be putting on fun-packed events for people of all ages. But what is the Trinidad Chamber of Commerce? “The Greater Trinidad Chamber of Commerce is a volunteer-run organization that strives to enhance the economic and social well-being of the people of the Greater Trinidad area by promoting local businesses, its geographical character, culture, environment, and heritage, and by encouraging cooperation and partnerships between business and the community. That means hosting events, offering scholarships, hiring local businesses for events, and drawing people to town to enjoy the best of what Trinidad has to offer,” said Chamber Secretary Ana K. Davis said.
Executive Director of the Greater Trinidad Chamber of Commerce and Arcata High Sophomore, John Adams encourages high school students to get involved whether it be attending some of the events or even trying for one of the many scholarships they fund.
“Volunteering for a nonprofit is a great way to get started. People have been really appreciative and it is deeply better than just doing the usual volunteer hours,” Adams said. The Chamber has even had Arcata High schools interact to help out with past events.
“We are always looking for more people to get involved. I would encourage anyone who is looking for community service hours to reach out to us as we always need assistance with things like set up, clean up, ticket taking, etc. The bonuses of volunteering include putting on fun events where you get perks, like free food, meeting local business owners and community volunteers, and getting to see your ideas come to life,” Davis said.
One of the many upcoming events and also monthly events is Arts Night on the last Saturday of every month. Past events include the Clam Beach Run, Taste of Trinidad, and, Adam’s favorite, the Fisherman’s Feast.
“Really good times, local bands, local albacore plates. You can just walk around town and have a really good time,” Adams said.
