As the air gets cooler and assignments start coming in, we have begun to realize that it’s the end of the summer. Everyone made very fond memories and enjoyed their time off. Because of this, it gets hard to let all those fun times go.
At Arcata High, celebrating and commemorating the end of summer has become a tradition by having some final summer fun at the “See Ya Summer” barbeque. This year the leadership students put on the barbeque with contests and games including hot dog, pie, and watermelon eating contests! The best part of a barbeque is always the food and this was surely entertaining. Students eagerly signed up for these contests and strove for victory.
Other contests included the three-legged race and the wheelbarrow race. Participants scrambled for partners and ran to get in line, excited to compete with friends. Games and activities were set up in various places such as cornhole, spikeball, volleyball, and more.
Some students were cooking food on the barbeque, filling the air with a pleasant aroma. Voices floated through the air and music played in the background. Groups of students were gathered, chatting, playing volleyball, dancing, and eating food.
Though the sun had already set and the air was chill, the atmosphere felt like that of a family barbeque. With everyone dressed in their best dad attire and summer outfits the Arcata High community, staff and students alike, enjoyed this “summer” night. The “See Ya Summer” barbeque is a wonderful way Arcata High School builds community in a favorable and fun environment because summer is something we all cherish.
