By Jake Knoeller (@jakeknoeller ) The Arcata High Tigers and Six Rivers Pirates had two teams that took hold of the HSU Esports Invitational on April 24th, with both teams nearly winning the whole thing. Our fellow students were competing in the game League of Legends, a multiplayer game in the form of a battle arena. Two teams use their experience and fight to be the first to destroy the opposing team’s base. The team “FF @ 15” placed second in the tournament, led by Noah Meisel, Kai Hansen, Finn Murphy, and Quinn Sousa. The team “Iron V” placed third, with Alden Mauro and Fisher Boroughs. Junior Elee Ballinger as profiled by Martina Mapatis (@martinas_better_ ) “I think I didn’t leave the house two days this week.” A previously very active “quarantiner”, junior Elee Ballinger, has experienced a drastic change in lifestyle ever since school was transferred online. In her first week without school she went to the beach everyday, swam in the ocean, and took walks in the community forest. However, once school started back up again, she had to spend more time in the house. Besides doing homework and cuddling with her cats, Ballinger uses her off time to watch lots of Netflix and improve her skills in Minecraft. When it comes to not going to school and sheltering-in-place, she thought she’d be bored by now, but she’s still “feeling great.” As of late, her only consistent activity has been waking up early (7 am) to go work at Field of Dreams Farm in West Haven where she rides and takes care of the horses, something that hasn’t been stopped by coronavirus. On the topic of COVID-19 in Humboldt, she’s not sure how she feels about it, although “personally, [she’s] not worried about it, because [she’s] a young, healthy person.”
