
Senior decisions have been in full swing the past few months. On top of the stress making a decision about where to go, students who want to continue their athletic careers have even more to think about: time management, greater competition, and demanding academic schedules. Despite these challenges, their passion and dedication has pushed them through to the next level to grow not only as athletes, but as individuals.
Luke Moxon: Basketball
Where? University of Montana
What are you most excited about? Getting out of here, meeting new people, getting a new experience.
Why did you choose this school? I went to a camp last summer and then stayed in contact with them. I really liked the school and the guys there.
Going pro? Maybe overseas, but that is kind of a crazy goal.
Bella Campbell: Volleyball
Where? College of the Redwoods
Why did you choose this school? The coach reached out to me and asked me to join the school.
What are you going to miss? The connection with my teammates, I enjoyed it a lot here.
What are you most excited about? I’m excited to meet new people, work with new coaches, see their technique, and just grow as a player.
Anthony Ebert: Baseball
Where? San Joaquin Delta College
What are you going to miss? The small town vibes. You get to know the fans and other teams more personally. There are strong rivalries here.
Nerves? Not at all. I think having that connection piece, we’re all trying to accomplish the same thing, have the same goals in line, so that really brings people together.
Lilah Durham: Track
Where? College of the Redwoods
Why did you choose this school? I wasn’t ready to move out yet, and I felt like I wanted to have a full-time job to get my money up before I go live independently.
Nerves? I think I just compare the levels of athleticism and skill from high school to college. Here, they are considered good, but in college, it could be really bad.
What are you going to miss? Leaving my relay team because we just formed it this year, and we went pretty far with it. Leaving them behind is what I’ll miss most.
Daniel Hernandez: Soccer
Where? Santa Rosa Junior College
What are you most excited about? Getting out of Humboldt to a new community.
Going pro? Yes, definitely, I am.
Did you have to make sacrifices? Time. I’ve sacrificed a lot of time for this sport and family time.
Taylor Sutherland: Softball
Where? College of the Redwoods
What are you most excited about? Doing something new, it’s definitely a different atmosphere, and meeting new people.
What are you going to miss? Already know everyone who is coming into the program.
