The cheer team excited about the new facility.
On Monday, May 5th, 2025, Arcata High School administration announced that a brand new indoor practice facility is being constructed for the 25/26 school year. This facility is to be used only by the cheer team and is going to be built right across the street from Arcata High, near the parking lot of the Stewart Park building.
This project was the result of one of my published articles earlier this year, titled “Cheer Team Struggles with no Practice Location.” AHS admin scheduled a meeting with me right after I published the article. They told me, “This is a huge issue, and we would like to solve this problem right away, especially before next school year.” I was skeptical that we would see a solution, but it’s finally here!!
Construction is underway, and it’s set to be fully complete right before next school year. This new facility will be about the size of four classrooms combined, to give the team more than enough practice space. It features air conditioning, a water fountain, a bathroom, a locker room area for changing purposes, and a springy mat that we can tumble on.
When asked about her feelings toward this new project, future senior cheerleader Charlotte Masaki said, “I can’t wait! It feels so good getting this amount of appreciation from our school and our administration.” Future junior cheerleader Mya Collenberg also said, “We are going to benefit so much from this new facility. It feels amazing to be appreciated around here after our struggles last season.”
During football season last year, the team struggled a lot with no practice location. We are so excited to see how this new facility treats our cheerleaders and how it will lead them to improvement. Thank you so much to our administration!
