When I become the Secretary of Defense of the United States, I will strictly use Fortnite lobbies to discuss the time and location of future bombings on foreign countries. I know it’s unlikely that I will ever become Secretary of Defense, or anyone else, until Pete Hegseth passes away at the rate the government is deteriorating. Also, I don’t want to bomb anyone, so I am already unqualified. Oh, and I forgot, the National Security Advisor Michael Waltz will probably add the editor-in-chief of a massive news publication to the lobby, because why not?
Even though that sounds slightly dramatic, it isn’t. First, how does the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic end up in your Signal app group chat, where you’re talking about bombing targets in Yemen? Secondly, why are you using Signal to discuss this? What’s next, Discord? Whatsapp?
Since news of this scandal broke, Pete Hegseth has denied that it happened and claimed that “nobody was texting war plans.” Pete, we’ve all seen it. Your best play is probably to ignore that it happened.
Michael Waltz also sent a real-time update of the operation to the group chat that had the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg in it. “First target – their top missile guy – we had positive ID of him walking into his girlfriend’s building, and it’s now collapsed.” Waltz texted the group, to which Vice President JD Vance replied, “Excellent,” and CIA Director John Ratcliffe replied, “A good start.” Michael Waltz was fired up because he replied with a fist emoji, followed by an American flag emoji, capped off with a fire emoji.
“This entire story was another hoax written by a Trump-hater who is well known for his sensationalist spin,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in an interview with ABC News. She does not address the accusations whatsoever, does not give reasons why she is correct, and gaslights the American people. This is a common strategy used by people within the Trump administration.
Now, I have never been involved in plans to attack foreign groups or countries, but I would hope they are usually taken more professionally and seriously than our current cabinet is handling them.
It’s hard not to worry about the future of our nation. Things like this add up and bring a deep sense of disturbance to many Americans’ minds. I don’t know what the solution to this is, and I don’t know what Americans can do about it. It’s just something that makes you say, “Oh no.” And as those incidents pile up, so does fear and mistrust among US citizens. This divides our nation.
Political polarization is at an all-time high. Our leadership enjoys and thrives on the division of American citizens. In the 2024 presidential election, President Trump’s biggest donors were SpaceX, or Elon Musk. He donated 238.5 million dollars to his campaign, according to NBC.
Now, look at the government. Who is firing federal workers? Who is stripping the bureaucracy? Who is helping their business using the government? Who is advertising their business at the White House, with the president?
My rant on that topic is over. Getting back to the group chat, GOP Congressmen are telling Hegseth and the White House to own up to this blunder and to stop lying.
Since this incident, Hegseth and Walz have not faced consequences. It is now reported that Hegseth used Signal again to share Yemen attack plans in a chat that included his wife and brother.
To prove my point that this is a small thing in contrast to the rest of Trump’s presidency. By the time this paper comes out, this event will have happened a while ago. You probably don’t think about it much anymore. Some events that were way more blasphemous occurred.
