On Friday, April 18th, the AHS Interact Club hosted its annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. This successful evening brought together families, Rotarians, and community members for food and music while supporting a good cause. Proceeds were donated to Sandy in Honduras, a nonprofit organization providing medical care to children in Honduras. Attendees enjoyed spaghetti, dessert, and live music throughout the night.
This dinner wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the numerous Interact volunteers, generous local businesses, and Rotarians, who dedicated their time to make this event happen.
“The Rotarians were really important to this event because they donated their time, resources for the [spaghetti] sauce, baskets for the silent auction, and material needed, such as chaffing dishes,” Interact president Amira Wanden said. “At their meetings, we also sold tickets, so they brought a lot of people to our event, helping us raise a lot of money.”
In previous years, Interact has donated its dinner profits to RAGAS (Rotary Action Group Against Slavery), a group that is committed to eradicating all forms of Modern Slavery/Human Trafficking locally and around the globe. However, after years of supporting this non-profit, Interact decided to make the transition to support a smaller non-profit, where the donated money would have a greater impact. The Interact officers chose Sandy in Honduras due to its smaller size and the amazing impact of its work. At the dinner, two women from the nonprofit came to speak about the work that’s being done. One of them was Katty Sattler.
“It was really amazing that we had someone so close to the project come and speak on our potential impact. Katty Sattler told us more about the actual medical issues that the kids have, and exactly what our money would be put towards,” Wanden said. “ It was much more meaningful to have them speak about it rather than us reading off some script. It was important to have someone who had actually been there and knew the program and Sandy.”
Interact is proud to have raised $3,000 for Sandy in Honduras! They’d like to thank everyone who donated and volunteered, making this fundraiser possible.
