Arcata, aided by a passionate student section beat Fortuna 56-45 in Friday’s AIBT game. Arcata started strong, ending the first quarter 15-10. With quite a few stellar steals and shots by Garrett Hall (number 23) Arcata widened the lead to nine points, finishing the half 29-20. In the second half, Fortuna found its footing. They brought the game to a tie only to have Mason Railsback (number 15) inch Arcata back to a 2 point lead with a layup. Fortuna responded by making two more shots before Hall responded with a layup. Railsback , assisted by Jack Taylor (number 24) made the shot that broke the second tie, bringing Arcata to a tentative lead. Fortuna tied the game for a third time, but Railsback quickly made a three, followed by Marcus Bensen (number 30), and Fortuna could not recover. Hall once again made the game high of 21 points. Arcata will play Piner for the championship tomorrow at 6PM.
